Peace Navigator is a single-user e-learning tool incorporating lessons and games. It is designed as an interactive journey for 3rd to 7th graders that builds on the principles of co-operative conflict resolution. Incorporating live action video and games, Peace Navigator makes peace and character education fun, interactive and accessible. Real life scenarios are mixed in with Peace Learning Center’s STEP system promoting respect, values, empathy and how to deal with differences.
The player begins by taking on the role of the “new kid at school” and is soon directed to the Courtyard. The Courtyard is a central location in the game functioning as a Safe Place that the student or player is free to return to at any time. Here the student meets the school’s gardener and Peace Navigator mentor "Shoe" who functions as a guide for the player on a fantastic quest of adventure and self-discovery. The student must journey to Four Realms, each having its own Element (Water, Air, Fire, and Earth) and Mythical Guardian. Each Realm ends with a Quest Challenge in which the Mythical Guardian and a fun game challenge the player’s knowledge of the associated skills. As the student's peace skills improve the challenges become more treacherous; whether it be braving the torrential waters of Saren Falls or gliding through the skies on the back of a winged cougar at Mount Ashi. To complete the journey the player wields the Peace Compass, a remarkable device that provides guidance and instruction in the Peace Navigator Skills that they’ve learned.
Finally the student makes it to class with a circle of new friends, a new perspective on Willingness and the Peace Navigator Knowledge to show others how we can all live peacefully. Maybe experiencing new things doesn’t have to be so scary after all…
